‘Mán Páánkhee’ is a series in water colors that is an attempt to capture the essence of these beautiful birds as minimally and simply as possible.
Have you noticed a bird flying in the open sky?
They seem so liberated, completely immersed in the sky without any purpose or bounds. Maybe that’s why we call them free-spirited.
But as they return to the ground, they become so conscious of themselves and the surroundings around them that their every move gets calculated. One step goes further, and four steps backward. So restless and startled. The exact opposite of when they are in the sky.
Similarly, our ‘mind, or ‘mánás, is also free-spirited, without any boundaries. We are also supposed to cross all the mountains and restrictions, just like a bird with wings, but we get too stuck in our own desires and lose our real nature, or swabhav.
This work delves even deeper as a reflection of my own journey through life, like a migratory bird. “I too move from place to place, leaving the chaos and conflicts of man-made landscapes in search of a much simpler,
peaceful existence.”
